Dr. Bob Horton began teaching in the Fall of 1990. In May 2015, Bob was named Coordinator of Fine Arts for Conroe ISD. He is a 1990 Magna Cum Laude Graduate of Sam Houston, where he was a student of B.R. Henson. In May 2005, Bob earned a Master of Music degree, with an emphasis in Conducting at Sam Houston State University, where he was a student of Dr. Allen Hightower. Bob completed his Doctoral degree in December 2012 in Educational Leadership at Sam Houston State University. 

For 11 years, Bob was the head choir director of The Woodlands High School.  He led a choral program of over 250 students who comprised six performing choirs. Prior to this position, Bob taught at McCullough Junior High for 8 years, York Junior High for 4 years, and elementary music and intermediate Choir in Klein ISD for 2 years. The 1996 York Girls, 1998 McCullough Boys, and 2013 TWHS Varsity Treble Choirs were selected to be Invited Performing Choirs for the TMEA Convention.  In 2011 and 2014, The Woodlands HS Chamber Choir won the American Classics Madrigal Festival and presented Honor Concerts in 2012 and 2015. The TWHS varsity treble choir, conducted by Bob and his assistant Lynn Bull, was also selected to perform at Southwest American Choral Directors Association in March 2014. The York and McCullough, and Woodlands High School choirs under Bob’s direction have been awarded consistent sweepstakes trophies and named “Best in Class” at various festivals. 

Bob had the privilege of serving the Region IX Junior High/Middle School division as its coordinator, and has twice served as High School Region Vocal Chair. In this capacity, Bob has also hosted Region Choir Weekend, Region Choir auditions, Solo and Ensemble for his school district, and UIL contest several times. Bob has been fortunate to be invited as a Region Choir Clinician for Middle School/Junior High School and High School in different regions across the state.  He has also served as a UIL adjudicator at all levels in 21 Regions around the state.  In addition to Texas, Bob has been invited to be a clinician and adjudicator in Mississippi, Louisiana, and Arkansas.

Bob also served a two year term as the Middle School/Junior High Vice President, President of Texas Choral Directors Association, and is now Past President of Texas Choral Directors. In February of 2015, Bob was elected to the office of State Vocal Chair of TMEA. In 2017, Bob was elected to the President track of TMEA, where he will serve for three years. In addition to Bob’s school duties, he has served the Woodlands United Methodist Church since 1996 as a Music Associate. He and his wife Connie, a Junior High Choir director in CISD, have two children, who have both earned All-State Choir membership. Andrea is a music major at Baylor University and Ben is a music major at Texas Tech University.
